Ch. 3 - Joseph - Forerunner of Jesus

Chapter 3 introduces us to Joseph, the 11th son of Jacob and favored by his father over all of Joseph’s brothers. Their jealously, prompted in part by Joseph himself, turned into hatred and they sold Joseph into slavery for 20 pieces of silver. He wound up in Egypt where he was falsely accused of attempted rape by his master’s wife and thrown into prison. From a human standpoint (the lower story), Joseph was in a terrible place. From a divine perspective (the upper story), Joseph was in the best place, as God was with him every step of the way, continuously working to bring good out of life’s painful and bad situations. Joseph, under God’s guidance, became 2nd in command over all of Egypt. Remembering that the Bible is God’s inspired story of His promise to send a Savior, we see several parallels between the life of Joseph and the life of Jesus.
